| The Perimeter Retreat: Fall Back! Fall Back to the Server! |
Speaker:
Bill McGee
Co-Founder & VP of Technology
Third Brigade
Track:
Desktop, Storage, Performance, Security
Though virtualization has poked serious holes into traditional perimeter security controls and cloud computing has effectively evaporated them, firewalls and IDS/IPS are not obsolete. But, they must retreat back to defend virtual resourcesdirectly on the server or VM. Organiizations must do more than ID management and data encryption. They must maintain a new perimeter that moves with critical resources. This session explores this transition, outlines approaches to server-based security and compares them to network and virtual appliance-based perimeter controls. Server security is more fully examined, encompassing the key security and compliance challenges affecting physical, virtual and cloud computing server environments.
Speaker Bio:
As founder and VP of products and services for Third Brigade, Bill McGee leads product strategy, development and client services. Previously, he was SVP, product development at Entrust and was part of the founding team that created Entrust as a spin-out from Nortel Networks, where he did pioneering cryptographic work.
