Today’s drastic economic times are leading to even more drastic corporate measures, such as huge IT budget cuts. While virtualization has long been hailed for its cost savings potential, the reality is most organizations are not seeing the savings and return on investment (ROI) that they had hoped to achieve. With confusion around systems management approaches, many companies simply chose to over-allocate their virtual infrastructures to ensure they would have the proper amount of resource capacity to assure virtual server performance. This approach has driven the cost per virtual machine (VM) up to or even exceeding what the server cost in its physical state. Systems management solutions are now available today that can help companies proactively and continually monitor resource utilization to better optimize current virtual infrastructure investments with the goal being to significantly increase VM densities and to lower the cost per VM. This session will show delegates how to get the most out of their existing virtualization hardware and software investments – instantly saving money and enabling them to even delay future hardware/capacity purchases, while still growing their environment and meeting performance standards.
Speaker Bio:
Alex Bakman is the founder and CEO of VKernel, a provider of easy-to-use and quick-to-deploy virtual appliances for managing virtual server environments. A recognized expert in systems management, server virtualization, IT security, and configuration management, Alex was prior to VKernel the founder and CEO of Ecora Software and remains the company’s chairman of the board. He is a frequent speaker at many industry events and conference, and a published author in various technology and business publications. His experience as director of IT for a Fortune 500 insurance company adds “real world” perspective to his understanding of the challenges facing today's IT executives.
